Petroleum Jelly Petroleum jelly is a semi-liquid mixture of alkyl hydrocarbons or saturated hydrocarbons, also called petrolatum, produced by fractional distillation of petroleum. Its state is between solid and liquid at room temperature, and it has three colors of brown, yellow and white for different purposes. Natural petroleum jelly is derived from petroleum residue concentrate such as alkyl hydrocarbon heavy oil. Artificial petroleum jelly is derived from a mixture of mineral oil thickened with pure ground wax or paraffin and paraffin grease. Petroleum jelly has a mineral oil odor, not a kerosene odor. It can be used as raw material for medicines and cosmetics, and can also be used for machine lubrication. |
