What is the Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP)?
A kind of sodium metaphosphate polymer, it is transparent glass flake or white powdery crystal. It has strong hygroscopicity; it becomes sticky after absorbing moisture, it is easy to be humid in the air, and it is easily soluble in water. The solubility in water is greater, but the dissolution rate is slow; the aqueous solution is acidic. Easy to hydrolyze or become phosphite. It has the ability to form or dissolve complexes for some metal ions (calcium, magnesium), so it can be used to soften water, and it can also form complexes with lead, silver, and barium.

Application
Uses mainly in auxiliary of synthetic wash, soap synergistic agent, Ceramic Industry, water softener, leather pre-tanning agent, dye auxiliary agent, and dispersant of suspension such as paint, kaolin, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate drilling mud, preservative agent for paper making, organic synthesis catalyze, and used in expurgation of petroleum product, gum latex storage, as dispersant, solvent in metal industry and pharmaceutical industry, also widely used in gum synthesis, food stuff industry, and poultry process.
