EVA is a random copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. Due to the introduction of a short branch chain formed by a polar acetic acid group in the ethylene chain, the original crystallization state is changed, making EVA more flexible and elastic than polyethylene.

 

The performance of EVA resin has a great relationship with the content of vinyl acetate and melt flow rate. When MFR is constant, the elasticity, flexibility, compatibility and transparency of vinyl acetate increase with the increase of its content, and the crystallinity decreases. With the decrease of vinyl acetate content, the properties are close to that of polyethylene, and the rigidity, wear resistance and electrical insulation properties are increased. If the content of vinyl acetate is constant, when MFR increases, the softening point decreases, the workability and surface gloss are improved, but the mechanical strength decreases. On the contrary, with the decrease of MFR, the molecular weight increases, and the impact property and stress cracking resistance are improved.

 

EVA is often blended with other polymers as a modifier due to its good flexural, toughness, stress cracking resistance and bonding properties. The blend of polyethylene and ethylene acetate ethylene copolymer (EVA) has excellent flexibility, processability, good gas permeability and printability, so it is widely used.

 

The properties of polyethylene and EVA blend vary with the amount of EVA blend, the content of VAc in EVA, the molecular weight of EVA, the blend system and the processing and forming conditions.
